About Us
I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay, going fishing or water skiing just about every weekend. I attended my first boaters safety course when I was 13. I started working on engines at a very early age. I opened Lothian Automotive in 1995. My wife Angi manages the shop and our 3 mechanics. I have diagnosed, repaired or overhauled just about every make of car or truck. I made the crossover from cars to boats in 2011. I was mentored in 2011 and 2012 and started East Coast Marine Surveying and Thermal Imaging in the fall of 2013.

My experience as a mechanic has really been an asset to me in the marine surveying industry. Because of my mechanical background, I do my best to have the equipment to test systems. Please visit the "Equipment used" link to see the equipment I use during a survey. Please, make sure your surveyor is a "good fit" for you and your specific needs. If you call me and give me your concerns, if I'm not the right surveyor for you, I will put you in touch with someone that may be a better "fit".

We survey boats almost everyday, but you probably will only need a couple of surveys in a lifetime. Remember these two last things, in my opinion, there are only two kinds of boats, ones that have been fixed, and ones that need to be fixed, and I also tell people, the boat tells me a story, I don't care WHO is there with me, it tells me a story, and that story is what I use to build your report. It is what it is.

Thank you for taking the time to consider me as your surveyor. Ken
